Fitzrovia
Fitzrovia, Central London
Named After A Baron
Charles Fitzroy bought the Manor of Tottenham Court and built a square named after himself as well. That square is still called Fitzroy square and it is located on Fitzroy Street, not far from Fitzrovia’s northern border on the A501.
While its history can date back to about 1000 AD, this is an area that does not have a lot of historical events recorded. Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens, and George Orwell were customers of the Fitzroy Pub that many claim the neighbourhood was named after.
Two of London's oldest surviving residential walkways are found in this nice neighbourhood. And it is home to one of London’s taller buildings, the BT Tower. This tower was the target of an IRA bomb back in the 70s.
What makes this neighbourhood unique is that while it is home to a variety of classes of people, businesses, and industries no single activity dominates the region. It is a balanced mix of people and lifestyles.
Because of this fine mix of residents and businesses, the London Times once called it the best place to live in London. Any estate agent can attest to that label as they have found the perfect homes for many of their clients in this neighbourhood.
Fitzrovia’s Real Estate Value
Because of the fine mixture of classes, lifestyles, and business in the area, you will find real estate values a little higher here than in some other areas of the City. You may not be able to find too many semi-detached and detached housing but the region is filled with terraced homes and flats.
The average price for flats in Fitzrovia is hitting almost £1,000,000. What drives this average up so high are the many flats selling in the high 7 figures. There is a fine selection of flats in the upper £400,000 to £600,000 price range.
The terraced home prices are not going to be of any help for lower prices as their average sale almost reaches £2,000,000. But when you want to live in the best neighbourhood to live in, you can expect prices to be on the higher side of the scale.
The structures of these homes are all solid, and well built even though they may not look fancy. One just has to go inside a flat or a terraced home to see why their value is so high. The interiors look great.
For a latecomer, the neighbourhood did not get a real name till the 1930s era, the homes found here can be quite expensive. You need an experienced estate agent to help you locate one in your price range.
