Shoreditch

Shoreditch is a creative neighbourhood in east London, just north of the City. Most of it is in the London Borough of Hackney, with its southern streets in Tower Hamlets. It is known for its street art, bars, restaurants and tech companies around Old Street.

Living in Shoreditch

Shoreditch's former warehouses and workshops are now loft apartments, offices and studios, alongside new apartment towers. Hoxton Square, Redchurch Street, Boxpark and nearby Brick Lane and Columbia Road Flower Market give it a lively, young feel. It is popular with people who work in the City and in tech.

Getting around

Shoreditch High Street and Hoxton stations are on the Overground, and Old Street is on the Northern line. Liverpool Street, with the Elizabeth line and trains to Stansted, is a short walk away.

Cost of living in Shoreditch

Shoreditch costs less than prime central London, but more than much of east London. Most homes are flats, from warehouse conversions to new-build apartments with concierge services.

Shoreditch spans EC2A (around Old Street and Great Eastern Street), E1 (south of Bethnal Green Road) and E2 (Hoxton and Columbia Road), with Hoxton in N1.

House prices in Shoreditch

Across the London Borough of Hackney, the average price paid for a home was about £619,000. Flats and maisonettes averaged about £536,000, and terraced houses about £989,000. Loft and new-build flats near Old Street often sit above the borough average.
