Marylebone
Before it was named after a church, Marylebone’s original name was Tyburn and that was the name of the stream or river that flowed through the area. Then after some time, the village was renamed after the original St. Mary’s church.
This church was built along the banks of the same Tybourne river. Lady Henrietta Cavendish Holles and her husband saw a need for fashionable houses and engaged the services of surveyor and builder John Prince to design a street grid system that was rational.
This is about the time that Marylebone started to grow population-wise. The original firehouse was built in 1889 and was decommissioned just over 100 years later.
In 2013, this famous Marylebone landmark became a now trendy hotel and restaurant. The firehouse is not the only famous location in this neighbourhood. Abbey Road and Baker street can also be found within its boundaries.
Along with members of the Beatles band, Charles Dickens used to live in this village. Finally, Madonna bought one of her London properties in Marylebone. Today, you will find some fine dining and shopping when you visit the neighbourhood.
It is a trendy place to visit and walk its fabled streets. Marylebone Lane is one of the hot spots and a must-visit road. No visit is complete without going to that ancient lane before you leave the village.
Marylebone Real Estate Values
Marylebone’s boundaries extend from halfway into Regents Park to Mayfair and the Marble Arch and from the A5205 to Fitzrovia and within those boundaries, you are going to find some of the finer homes of London.
The flats tend to be valued on average at £1,400,000 approx while the Terraced homes run on average at £2,800,000 approx. The semi-detached homes are valued lower than the terraced options and they run for about £2,500,000.
The real value in this area is the detached homes. You may not find too many listed below their average value of £10,000,000. There are some flats and other homes selling for £25,000,000.
Prices remain quite high here as one real estate listing had 30 pages of homes for sale and all the flats, etc., were priced over £1,000,000. This area is so high class that its parking spaces are selling for over £100,000.
There are a few flats, studios, and hotel rooms priced at around £200,000 and £300,000 but they may go fast. Cheaper-priced properties do not last long in these neighbourhoods.
To help you find those lower-end priced homes, you need a very experienced estate agency and agent to guide you.
