Bermondsey

Warehouses, markets and Bermondsey Street, a short walk from London Bridge.

Bermondsey is a riverside neighbourhood in south-east London, in the London Borough of Southwark, just east of London Bridge and south of Tower Bridge. Once known for its warehouses and tanneries, it is now one of London's most popular places to live for professionals working in the City.

Living in Bermondsey

Bermondsey Street has independent restaurants, cafés and the Fashion and Textile Museum, and Maltby Street Market runs on weekends. The river at Shad Thames and Butler's Wharf has converted warehouses with views of Tower Bridge, and Southwark Park is the area's largest green space. Homes include warehouse lofts, Victorian terraces and modern apartments.

Getting around

Bermondsey station is on the Jubilee line, a few minutes from London Bridge, Canary Wharf and Westminster. London Bridge station, with the Northern line and Thameslink, is within walking distance, and riverboats stop nearby.

Cost of living in Bermondsey

Bermondsey usually costs less than the north bank of the river while being just as close to the City. Warehouse conversions by the river are the most sought after.

Bermondsey postcode: SE1 and SE16

Bermondsey spans SE1 (Bermondsey Street, Shad Thames and around London Bridge) and SE16 (south and east towards Southwark Park and Rotherhithe).

House prices in Bermondsey

Across the London Borough of Southwark, the average price paid for a home was about £569,000. Flats and maisonettes averaged about £467,000, and terraced houses about £835,000. Riverside warehouse flats near Tower Bridge sit above the borough average.
