Chiswick

Riverside Georgian houses, Chiswick High Road and leafy family streets.

Chiswick is a leafy riverside neighbourhood in west London, in the London Borough of Hounslow and the W4 postcode, between Hammersmith, Kew and Acton. It is known for Chiswick High Road, its riverside walks and its large period family houses.

Living in Chiswick

Chiswick High Road and Turnham Green Terrace are lined with independent shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs, and a flower market is held on the high road once a month. Along the Thames, Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green have some of London's finest Georgian riverside houses. Chiswick House and Gardens, Turnham Green and Dukes Meadows provide plenty of green space, and Bedford Park, one of the first garden suburbs, is known for its red-brick Victorian houses.

Getting around

Turnham Green, Chiswick Park and Stamford Brook are on the District line, and Gunnersbury also has the London Overground. Chiswick and Kew Bridge stations have South Western Railway trains to London Waterloo. The A4 and M4 make Heathrow easy to reach.

Cost of living in Chiswick

Chiswick is one of west London's most popular areas for families, with good schools, green space and large houses. Prices are well above the average for the borough of Hounslow and often close to those in neighbouring Hammersmith and Fulham.

Chiswick postcode: W4

Chiswick is in the W4 postcode, which covers Chiswick High Road, Turnham Green, Chiswick Mall, Grove Park, Strand on the Green and most of Bedford Park. Hammersmith (W6) lies to the east, and Kew (TW9), next to Richmond, is across the river.

House prices in Chiswick

Across the London Borough of Hounslow, the average price paid for a home was about £528,000. Flats and maisonettes averaged about £353,000, and terraced houses about £618,000. Chiswick is the most expensive part of the borough, so homes here, especially family houses, usually sit well above these borough-wide averages.
