West London Glory
The location of this little region is in west London and borders the Thames river. Its biggest claim to fame is the route of the A4. This major roadway goes through the heart of Hammersmith and connects with the M4 just outside of its border.
If you can handle the commute traffic, this is an ideal location to live when working in inner London. Or if you want a quick getaway, Hammersmith is perfect for those last-minute weekend holidays.
A Little Gardening And Murder
This community is not without its notoriety. In the 19th century, it was the location of the Ghost Murder case that influenced English legal history. But that case did not overshadow the beauty that can be found in this little London area.
For over 150 years, the Vineyard Nursery provided an excellent supply of plants and flowers for its neighbours and the rest of England. Starting in 1745, the Vineyard Nursery covered 6 acres of land dedicated to helping its fellow Englishmen beautify their little community.
And if those two tidbits do not generate any interest in living here, maybe all the great shops, malls, and other shopping opportunities will. Two underground stations and a bus station make sure Hammersmith residents can safely get to their other destinations.
Hammersmith Real Estate Value
This is not a luxury or rich part of London. Even though the housing is priced fairly high here it does not reach the same heights as other more famous London neighbourhoods do. The average selling price in this area is just over £1,000,000. Detached housing fetched just over £3,000,000, semi-detached was recorded as costing around £2,000,000, terraced homes were a bit cheaper listing at roughly £1,400,000 and flats brought the average down with their top price of about £564,000.
It is an affordable area to live in when you want to be close to downtown London and all of its benefits. There are some exclusive real estate developments that go for an astounding £4,000,000+ price tag near the Hammersmith bridge.
But those opportunities are not great enough to swing the average real estate value to above £1,000,000. The reason for that is there are plenty of flats selling for far under £450,000.
The Architecture Of Hammersmith
A variety of British architects have had their influence on this area. With Ralph Erskine creating the ‘ark’, a building that looks like the hull of a ship. Other architects have created
great-looking buildings and churches that add a special flavour to this area.
Those designs have done nothing to harm property values in the area. Instead, they provide a very stable look and atmosphere that makes residents feel comfortable and at home in this neighbourhood.
Many of its older buildings are listed buildings including the original church St. Paul’s. The Dove is one of those buildings and it is said that Ernest Hemmingway frequented this establishment & the little alleyway it stands on is the last road of the original Hammersmith Village.
