South Kensington

South Kensington is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in the SW7 postcode, south of Hyde Park. It is famous for its museums and for some of London's most elegant white stucco streets and garden squares.

Living in South Kensington

The Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the V&A are on Exhibition Road, with the Royal Albert Hall and Imperial College close by. Around the station are cafés, bookshops and restaurants, and the area has a long-standing French community around the Lycée Français. Residential streets such as Onslow Gardens, Thurloe Square and Queen's Gate are lined with grand stucco houses, many now divided into apartments.

Getting around

South Kensington station is on the Circle, District and Piccadilly lines, with direct trains to Heathrow and the West End, and Gloucester Road is a short walk west. Hyde Park and Knightsbridge are within walking distance.
